Patient Rights

As a patient of Hope Island and Homeworld Helensvale Medical Centres, you are entitled to the following rights:

  • Be treated with care, respect, and dignity.
  • Know what services are available to you.
  • Receive a clear explanation of:
    • Your condition.
    • Any planned treatments or procedures.
    • Alternative treatments or procedures.
    • Possible side effects or after-effects.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time. You should only give consent if you feel suitably informed.
  • Be informed of likely costs before any procedures.
  • Request a second opinion.
  • Know the identity and professional status of individuals providing your care.
  • Be involved in planning and implementing your care.
  • Have your treatment details kept confidential, unless disclosure is required by law.
  • Request to view your medical file.
  • Privacy during treatment or procedures in a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Have concerns or complaints addressed in a timely manner.

Patient Responsibilities

As a patient of Hope Island and Homeworld Helensvale Medical Centres, you have a responsibility to:

  • Notify the medical centre as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment.
  • Provide complete and accurate information regarding your health, medical history, and medications.
  • Respect the rights of other patients, visitors, and staff, and treat others with courtesy and respect.
  • Advise your healthcare providers when you do not understand explanations.
  • Respect the property of the facility and others.
  • Be responsible for payment of all fees.

Facilities

The staff will ask you if you would like your Medicare rebate to be sent electronically. Once you have given your consent the claim will be transmitted to Medicare and the rebate organised.

If you need to go to a Medicare office, it is co-located with Centrelink at
37-39 Cotton St, Nerang QLD 4211

We have EFTPOS facilities and accept Mastercard and Visa.

A television is provided. Stands in the waiting room contain pamphlets on a variety of health issues and we encourage patients to help themselves. Patient information is displayed on electronic display screens.

Chilled spring water is provided in the waiting room.

Interpreter Services

We have access to interpreter services if a patient requires help with communication. Please see our reception staff.

reception@himc.com.au, although this is not the preferred method of contact.

Never use email for urgent matters.

Your doctor or designated staff member will respond to your enquiry by telephone as we are unable to guarantee confidentiality through email.
