General Practice consultations and advice
You can discuss any health or wellbeing concerns with your doctor. It is safe and confidential.
Do not ignore signs or symptoms such as headaches, lumps, chest pain, nausea, or fatigue. If you are concerned, see your GP.
Your family doctor provides holistic, patient‐centred care. Your ongoing care is with your regular GP, and your medical home is Hope Island Medical Centre.
Travel MedicineAlways check with your doctor before heading overseas, for the latest travel medicine advice and immunisations.
Skin Cancer Clinic
Our skin cancer clinic is a specialised clinic staffed by highly trained skin cancer doctors and nurses, and fitted with the latest technology to assist diagnosis and treatment.
More than 3,600 people are diagnosed with melanoma in Queensland each year, and unfortunately our skin cancer rates are the highest in Australia (and, with New Zealand, the highest in the world). Prevention is vitally important—and so is regular surveillance, early detection and prompt treatment.
Dr Robbie Honore (M.B.B.S. F.R.A.C.G.P)
A GP with a special interest in skin cancer management, accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australasia, and active in non-melanoma skin cancer research.
Early Detection
When did you last have a skin cancer check? Ask your doctor about your own level of risk and for advice on early detection. Get into a routine of checking your skin for new spots and changes to existing freckles or moles. We cannot afford to forget sun protection—it’s never too late to prevent further damage. Don’t forget to:
- SLIP (on a shirt)
- SLOP (on sunscreen)
- SLAP (on a hat)
- SEEK (shade)
- SLIDE (on sunglasses)

Please call (07) 5563 5151 to make your skin clinic appointment. This ensures we can allocate the correct time slot and doctor for you.

- Those experiencing menopause or perimenopause

Chronic Condition Management Plans
GP Chronic Condition Management Plans (GPCCMPs) are for patients with one or more chronic medical conditions who would benefit from a structured care plan. A chronic condition is one that has been, or is likely to be, present for at least six months or is terminal. Chronic conditions include Diabetes, Heart Disease, Osteoporosis, Asthma and COPD.

Preventative Health
Focusing on preventive care at all stages of life helps you achieve better health. We provide education and medical support to help you optimise your health by addressing lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, stress management, and weight, as well as your family or medical history risks.

Targeted health assessments are available for certain groups, including people aged 45–49 with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, lifestyle risks, or a family history of chronic disease.
Visits to Aged Care and Home Visits
Home visits may be arranged for regular patients within 6 km of the medical centre if their condition prevents them from attending the surgery. Your doctor will assess if a home visit is appropriate, as it may be safer to attend the surgery or an emergency department for urgent care.
Home visits are not bulk-billed, and full payment is required on the day by phone, with a Medicare rebate facilitated.
Your doctors also visit local residential aged care homes and may provide Palliative Care and Home Management of Terminal Illness (for our regular patients at the discretion of their treating GP).
